PEBS at the Mount Tepeyac residences

PEBS log book, Sept 21, 2013

It was a great day for PEBS though the winds were gusting
at 10mph and occasional downpours in the city. ABS CBN
covered the sketching event for clothed figure. Our model
is Cassandra Tanedo and most of the members were present
and excited. We extended our invitation to Bencab who
unfortunately just got in the city from a trip the day before
and was busy with a lot of museum guests and so was unable to
attend.

Refreshments, coffee and snacks were served
the set up for the sketching was complemented with
piano music by one of the jazz greats in the 50's
Marian McPartland and Bill Evans via youtube.

PEBS is doing the weekly sketching session
in different locations reminiscent of the Saturday
Group in the 70's headed by HR Ocampo of which
Ben and I were members.

PEBS is happy we're doing this in Baguio and not elsewhere.
It aims to promote Baguio as the destination for art lovers
as well as collectors through its sketching sessions and
exhibits and to collaborate with other art organizations
in pursuing high standards and integrity in art. Next year
PEBS will hold a regional painting competition.

Jin. Not in photo are Leon, Kirk, and Sam)

That's all Baguio folks.

We'll catch you later with more cultural happenings.

HAPPY KALDERO DAY

LUNCH  TIME CELEBRATION

Lunch time was exciting for this charming coed whose
friends decided to give her a treat and watch her gobble
up her birthday cake with the funny greetings of
Happy Birthday Miss Kaldero aka Janille (second from
left with eye specs).

The Cafeteria was as usual packed with famished
students possibly after their exams but had the chance
to refuel with fun as they sang Happy birthday and
the usual push and prompt for the celebrant to make a
speech. Naturally they didn't get it and there was laughter
afterwards.

This is the student culture at the university. It's all
fun and laughter.

PEBS at the Manor

Sketching at the Manor Hotel in the John Hay area

The rain and the gloomy weather wasn't enough to
cast its blues to the members of the Pigment, Easel
and Brush Society.

Cool weather on a late afternoon is great for coffee and sketching
hotel clients in the cafe. Leon Halabaso is sketching a thinking gesture
of Monty inspired by Rodin's "the thinker"

A number of clients took candid shots of the sketching
session. It was fun filled and art sketches were produced.

On a separate session at the botanical garden Trina Fernandez
was doing a painting of the view from across the
dahlia lane.

The brewed coffee was great with no bitter after taste and
even without fruit crepe folks!
You might want to give it a shot sometime.

that's all folks!
catch you again another time.

Baguio PEBS plein air session

Off they painted and sketched today at the botanical garden.

The scratching sounds of charcoals, brushes and palette knives against
canvases and paper boards subsumed the buzz of the bees and the
birds chirps in today's dry and quiet  afternoon at the botanical garden.
Yes, members of the Baguio Pigment, Easel and Brush Society were
busy grinding and whipping artworks for their December Open
Studios where art patrons may buy without gallery commissions Christmas
gifts for friends and families.

Here's a photo of the artists present for the plein air session
by the dahlia lane.

I'M BACCCCKK!!!

Hello everyone!

Very Happy to tell you that i'm a bit settled now. Finally found
a place to work in Baguio city.
Couldn't believe time flew so quickly that it's been months
since I last posted anything, like nothing was happening in
the art world.

Well a lot of things are happening and one of them is the
the new born Baguio PEBS (Pigment, Easel and Brush Society).
The society comprised mainly of new generation of artists
from the University of the Philippines are going to transform the art scene in Baguio City and the region around it. One of the aims of the society is to advance high standard and integrity
in art. That is to say to create artworks in the tradition of the
masters of the previous centuries. They are fired with enthusiasm that Luna and Amorsolo would be proud of.

On Saturday, that is tomorrow, they will have the first plein
air session at the Botanical garden and every week thereafter
to hit other creative landscapes and cafes. This reminds
me of the old Taza de Oro artists headed by HR Ocampo in
the 70s. A great many artists belonged to this prestigious
group. Our local celebrity Bencab is one of them along with
the other great names like Billy Abueva, Joya, Saprid, Sanso, Legaspi, Castrillo, Manansala, Malang, Severino, etc.

The Society will also hold "Open Studios" in December
to share and sell their works without the gallery commission.
So local art collectors and patrons, we would be looking
forward to seeing you at their cheese and wine reception
during the "Open Studios". It would be great idea to give
gifts of artistic and cultural value to your friends and family.

They will make the where and when announcement for the
"Open Studios" at a later date.

In the meantime, let's enjoy the weekend and watch them work
at the botanical garden.

Keep in touch and we'll be in touch.

Au revoir
