the concerts at the grove is about to

culminate for the summer...

but there's always time to be foot loose and fancy free...

Dad, mom  and daughter going to
the hawaiian concert ...

As usual a large audience
are out here, sun or fog...

and the snack and refreshment kiosks
serve everyone's favorite grill food...

hot dogs, burgers, chicken...

the Hawaiians
brought music from the
early 1900s to present...
for sure a noticeable difference
is reflected on the pacing ...
the mellow and slow rhythm of
the earlier years
had been changed to
 faster pace by the
new generation of composers
in the last few decades...

Nonetheless, San Franciscan are not
really particular about that. A concert on
a Sunday is an opportunity to relax
and listen to good live music...

that's all folks!

see you at the concert!!!

HOW TIME FLIES....

......when you're having fun....

and that's exactly what it is today
at the Saturday Farmers Market
in Serramonte...

It is rather warm at 74 degrees with hardly a
cool breeze to give one a relief....
but nevertheless the market
is packed with shoppers....

I get my organic salad from
Roger

Erica shops for carrots...

but the highlight of the day is the music that's provided,
particularly ,
by Bill and Stephanie.
They caught my attention from a distance
with "Moon river", a Henry Mancini composition for
the movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's".
Their guitar and flute combination is great
for easy listening and relaxation.
As they're jazz performers, we happened to talk about
the Marian McPartland KQED jazz on Wednesdays.
Though Marian passed away not too recently, there is
still a big audience listening to her on-going
Wednesday night radio program and I'm just
happy listening to it myself.
She's a long life typical to a lot of people
in the arts.
Bill thinks it's on account of musicians, artists, actors, writers
able to touch the space of joy, almost devoid
of worries and able to do what you love to do. Something
Joseph Campbell spews about in finding time
for yourself and not for anybody else.
Even the Journal of American Medicine credits
longevity to the absence of tension and stress along
with great exercise and healthy diet.

Bill and Stephanie will have their gig in September
at the Southwest terminal arrival/baggage area
at the Oakland airport,
to bring joy via their sweet and soothing
music to airline passengers
while waiting to collect their luggages.

that's all folks!

Au revoir!
Hasta la vista!

The Season Of Us 1

GRIEF

....we all carry it differently....

up until last week four whales
had been washed ashore in Pacifica...
dead.....

Sperm whale ...two weeks in decomposing state...

Curious Pacifica folks as well as those from neighboring
 communities checked out the whales....

the humpback whale was 4 days dead when
i came to shoot the photos.
It is interesting to note that in not
so far distance off the shore,
in the shallow waters....
3 or 4 whales can be seen
swimming around grieving....
they just couldn't leave the vicinity....

it's a very close parallelism to humans...
very touching ....one can feel
the wrenching pain....

two of these whales were hit by passing
ships....
marine biologists still could not make a determination
on the cause of death of the other 2 whales...

they cut up parts of the whales for necropsy...
first time i've seen intestines diameter
big enough to fit
Jonah inside....
the skin is about 2.5 inches in thickness
supported by a layer of thick and heavy fat
approximately 9" inches....
gummy like but tough...

the fishy smell of the decomposing
whales pervaded
a large perimeter
and the ocean wind was
blowing it to the adjacent neighborhood
including part of the back nine
of Sharp Golf course.

what stuck to my memory are the
whales that swam around to
perhaps mourn their
dead....

A rare sad story of other mammals
to be witnessed by
humans who came for
curiosity and perhaps
also to mourn.

if one had to play music for the
tragedy, I think I'd
pick Sam Barbers'
"Adagio for Strings".
What is yours?

that's all folks!

there never seems enough....

....time for us to do the things we love to do.....

this is self evident and all we can do is sigh....
after the experience ....

 but hopeful that,
indeed, we'll have another time
to continue where we left off...

this is just exactly what we experienced
a couple of Saturdays ago when our group
had a catching up meeting

at the food court in Stonestown
where we exchanged warm
greetings and smiles
over cups of coffee...

Penelope will be off for Mindoro
where she'll host the 100th anniversary
celebration of NVM Gonzalez.

Theresa and Matt are planning on the
market launching of their cd project.

Ramon is a busy body over his work
and his guitar playing.

And myself taking art life a little easy.
There are only so many hours in a day.
I wish there were more but
fretfully i cannot locate the guy who
invented time just so i can plead
for him to add more.
 Was it during the Sumerian
times or the Aztecs ... I really don't
know . That was all before
anybody's time, anyway.
But you know what I mean.

Matt and Theresa grabbed their light lunch
at the first opportunity they had to quell
their arguing bellies.

Theresa took an extra bag of fortune cookies...
which later on
pepped up an already exciting
conversation.
Fortune cookie writers have a knack
of making the reader feel good.

Each one of us had fortune cookie notes,
that believe, you me, somehow playfully
touched a modicum of truth
to just exactly what was
happening in our lives or at least what
were in our thoughts at the moment....

and reflections on our life's attitudes and
philosophies

...this is about me

We sort of had a feeling someone's playing
a joke on us...
for the notes were so accurate...
for a minute we thought it
was just a matter of coincidence...
so we randomly picked cookies
in a blindfolded manner to eliminate bias
as the statistician would insist....
but there you are... the notes were
like Sherlock Holmes smart...
we can't hide anything that we
knew were in the dungeon
of our thoughts....
to resolve what may dubiously is
a clear coincidence,
 we decided
to get another bag of fortune
cookies to see if they were going to
confirm the earlier messages...
"VOILA!"
they did!!!!

i'm rather falling asleep out
of the dehydrating weather
today. I wanted to elaborate
further on these notes...
perhaps i'll post a
sequel....

that's all for now folks!

Gute Nacht!
or Gut Morgen!
Magandang Umaga!
It's 1:55 A.M.

Land's end

Recently I had the time and opportunity

to take the Land's End trail...
to the shoreline....
it was a nice walk under the
warm summer sun...
a little over a mile to and fro
from the upper level tier where i found
ample parking...

this is a regular stop for tourist buses...
where tourists can enjoy the vista of the
golden gate bridge, take photos and selfies...

for the 5-minute time they're allowed before
the bus takes them off to the next stop...

i had been doing a painting
of the rock below

it's now in the finishing stage....
(i'll post the photo in the next blog)

so the downhill trail is winding,

dusty with wire rails on both sides
and steps to make it easier
and safer going up and down....till
it reaches a vista point...

the view on the north side is
golden gate bridge

and the south side of the vista cliff
are both breathless...

the rock at the near left center of the horizon
is the subject of my painting
two ladies braved their way down the hard way...
i yelled out for them to go back up and take the safer route
but i guess they knew what they were doing...
and made it safely to the ground...

...enjoy the vista reserved for the brave and
the adventurous....

that's all folks!

keep in touch
and i'll be in  touch!
