INTERLUDE

...quietly, by intention or not, interludes happen...
california st at taylor

and when they do, they, sometimes, present
themselves in a surprisingly pleasing fashion...

however. when they end up,
they could  be
naggingly devastating
if not plain disappointing.

... in the course of our daily lives
in what ever walk and/or station in life,
one encounters
an interlude...

a calm response is the safest way to go...
as it is in most situations,
for when the
undesirable comes,
 it is buffered...

it can be likened to the middle gear
which affords one the flexibility
of down or up-shifting...

over-reacting raises the expectations
and causes deeper stresses or even
panic, when hopes for a big finish
don't come into fruition...

in the field of art, philosophy, romance,
law. politics or business...
it behooves one

to have the benefit of
the ability to switch on
either side of the T-balance...
if one were to avoid the
thrust of penetrating
pain should the unexpected
happen.

rhythms of life....there are such things...

.... in typical moments....

they run unnoticed and matters that  matter
are assumed
cruising smoothly and declared normal...
Montara light house shot by a close friend

breathing is a specific example
that we don't question...

getting a job after college life is another...
then perhaps getting into a relationship
and having a family and on and on
as we run the course of life...

until a wanna be Socrates/ Delilah starts
stirring the helm or
you, yourself does the
mis-step...
and the "buts" start coming to the fore...
what appears to be normal is now
suddenly under the shadow of
"not so..."
bluejay at lake Merced

such is the rhythm of life....
one moment it is simple.....
and the next complicated...
and vice versa...

where we are or where you are
without rhythm ....
 your
life-cruising
could be in jeopardy.
rooster in Baguio

when a spike of irregularity occurs...
effecting a disruption of normal
life activities...
it is not, as far as i am concerned,
without a cause...
though
some believe that these irregular events
that are taking place
in spontaneous fashion...
are purely accidental...
this POV is usually a position
taken when cerebral
function is conveniently
paralyzed...
Canadian geese at lake Merced
if one is sensitive enough to notice
what is happening
around ....
one would be able to explain the
 discomfort that
irregularity brings ...
what do you then do?
cow at the conservatory of flowers

Nothing! really, perhaps nothing!
How can one figure out or
at best anticipate what is coming.
Symptoms of discomfort
can be felt ...
 then...
and only then
does one start wondering
and realizing
that something is happening...
that's the only signal you've got
to start reacting or counter-reacting.

I say this for I had the experience
on the physical dimension...
it trickled down to my psyche
and i had confusion...
I had to slowly revert back to my
usual habits in order to normalize
matters.
I had to go back to playing
the guitar, playing golf,
catching up with my
readings and other activities.
And they almost have to
be done in the same sequence
with time proportions
that I was once used to.

So folks, if by any chance you
had to toy around with your own
rhythm, take the cautious
step of not breaking
the measures too fast
or in hasty skips.

that's all folks!

COS COB and the Polish Connection....

Towards the end of February, I received a phone call from a pretty, charming, energetic, open-minded, strong-willed, kind and caring, empiricist Polish lady, whom I had met while plein-airing at Lands End last summer. One might say, that's quite a generous characterization of her but that is my honest appraisal. Well, she had admitted, rather dismally, if there is any shortcoming, ... her artistic side is, at the moment, in the silent mode. How can that be when she grew up, centuries later, of course, just about 30 miles away from where the great Frederic Chopin was born. That neighborhood has got to be artistic may seem to be my logical conclusion, but nonetheless, one might argue,  it's 'non sequitur.'

She stopped by, at the time, to say Hi, either that ,
or she's just tired pedaling her
bike uphill.
We chatted for about half an hour
and teasingly expressed her desire to buy
the painting, assuming it's reasonably
within her reach, as we bade goodbye.
I'm sure a lot of artists experience
this random farewell, meant to encourage, act
from a lot of people.
The painting lit with white light

Anyway, her phone call, after many months
of no contact,
except the occasional
email greetings,
led us to meet at
Lands End under mauvish light
the scene of the crime...
LANDS END....
for tea and a wonderful
get-to-know conversation ensued.
In our conversation, I unwittingly,
divulged my Cos Cob project.
Childe Hassam painted this side of the house

So now, I've started to stretch a few linen
canvases to create paintings of the
Cos Cob landscapes
which the American impressionists
This angle was painted by Childe Hassam
had done a century ago.
This project tells of the physical
changes that had taken place
in Cos Cob over those
years, whether,

It's seems like a tall order...
but i love the challenges
even though it will
take years to complete.

The project came about when I had a chance
to visit the Bush-Holley boarding house

a few years ago, while it was undergoing renovation.

I was given a tour of the house, which served
as the lodging for the impressionist
painters. Their unfinished paintings are
still sitting at the easels and the
long dining table is set with dishes and
utensils as if dinner will be served soon.
It gave me the goose bumps.
I swear i could feel the impressionist artists
were gathered around after
dinner  enjoying one for the road, laughter
and art conversations,
I had privy to their bedrooms and the
living room with the fireplace.

An explosive glow of art light just dawned on me,
weeks after the museum tour, to continue
the tradition of painting the landscapes
which they so admired, so I
took pictures around Cos Cob.

But I also intend to go back for an
actual plein-air just as soon as I can afford
the cross country journey with my trusty, rusty
vintage car.
Might I do a kick-starter for
this project? It is a humble idea....it did
work for a few creative people I've known...
Who knows....I might just do that
to expedite matters.

In the meantime, I'll have to proceed
with the use of the photos I've taken
as references for the artworks.

I'll post updates and works in progress for those
who may have the interest to see how things are going.

Oh, I would need real great source of inspiration for this project !

Wish it for me.

it's FREEZZINNNG!!!

.......it's that time of the year...

when season lapses,
like a wheel, when it spins
by force of gravity and momentum, takes
the top side to the bottom side and repeats the
same motion over and over again.

from the warm summer days
the trolley at the Americana Galeria in Glendale, Southern CA

that brought unfailing energy to
our daily lives by

way of the lively, festive
and joyful activities

that fundamentally
took all the cares
away...
Theresa doing still life
Matt french pressing coffee while Ramon is
patiently waiting...

now it's fall, at its
fullest swing,
and the cold, almost
winterly-like temperatures,
bring
noontime wind and fog at Lands End
back memories
of joy
of the summer days,
painting session break time
wishing they'd
have stayed longer.

Nature, itself has to go
through cycles,
California st at late afternoon
like it or not,
we become part of these
cycles and
our experiences,
analogously,
are in like manner.
Matt and Penelope's cat

we follow these
cycles, with anticipation
and expectations,
as if they
were deja vu.

However, we try to enrich
our lives, with more
experiences, as we
seek more of life's
meaning.

our propensity
to go to the next level, is propelled

that make tomorrow's

to look forward to.

composers and musicians
make this world go 'round.
musicians in session

take for instance, the lyrics
of the song
" I ONLY MISS HER
WHEN I THINK OF HER"

"I'll only miss her when
I think of her
And I'll think of her
all the time
Likely I'll spend my days
hearing her turn
of a phrase
Things I found hard to praise
right now
would seem sublime"......

"....I'll bet I forget her completely
in about a hundred years"

it's a profound expression of
enchantment...
it could be your song,
for all we know.

but the point is ...
it makes the world
go 'round.

Oliver Sacks
a  British neurologist,
who migrated to USA,
 ventured to explore
the function of music particularly for
those stricken with central nervous
disorders due to stroke...
and made contributions to the
understanding of these patients
ability to exhibit responses to
certain music and sounds
despite their seemingly
almost lack of
responsiveness.

Unfortunately, Oliver passed
away in September. I was
in LA, at the time, visiting
friends, when I heard of the news
broadcasted on NPR.
I've started reading his
"musicophilia," about 3
years ago, and still have
not finished...
too many intervening
circumstances, you know...
but i'll get to finish it
somehow.

At any rate,
do check lyrics of
songs, specially,
the standards,

and it's amazing
how the writers' imaginativeness
and creativity seems
very expansive and
without borders.

Go through the exercise
of analyzing the songwriters'
carefully chosen words
and perhaps, might uncover for
 yourself....
ways on
how to keep the flame
of sweet-errr romance...
