That's greaat coffee i just had with crepe and meditarranean stuffing for
breakfast. But didn't have yogurt.

Anyway, it seems to me that we have an overabundance
of artists but we are definitely, according to some in the art circles
are undersupplied with artists who know what they're doing.

In time perhaps, new breed of well trained and learned artists will
spring . We definitely need art schools with training curricula focused
on the actual practice of painting. Remember  Ecole d artes in Paris, Arts
Students League in New York which produced great French and American
painters. I mean compare their paintings with ours and ....you're right
there's no comparison and perhaps it's not fair to do so.. Well what's
all the fuss about creating paintings then? I think these guys across the
ocean are well way ahead in terms of techniques and materials. Do we have
ambitions of catching up or raising our level of standards? As a group
the filipino artist is behind. A lot of individual artists are either in self denial
or aren't aware of what is going on across the oceans. Few can really be counted.
But for those who have travelled and had the good fortune of going to the art
museums and/or studying in the fine arts schools of Europe and America the
case is rested.

The regular art institutions in the universities are mostly theoretically
oriented. The other part of practice is minimally exercised. Common sense
tells me that products of these kind of training are half baked. There maybe
exceptions but we're not talking about exceptions.

The Academy of Art in San Francisco trains artists how to paint providing
necessary 6 hour workshops everyday for the student to practice in addition
to the regular  6 hour painting classes. Do we have anything like this to train
the new breed of artists?

Doesn't anyone think it's high time to get busy?
Are we in limbo or in primitive pre computer age.
Luna, Hidalgo, Amorsolo were not the exceptions.
They were able to produce exceptional artworks because
of their training and exposure to art environments across
the oceans.

Gotta take a break fellow artists. Somehow, somewhere
we'll manage to get over the hill.

later.

  1. So we're handicapped with techniques and materials not so much with creativity and inspiration . Hey, we're all human beings breathing the same air remember? If that were the cause of subquality artworks, then the problem is easy to solve don't you think?

That seems to make sense if you come to
think of it. But I guess we can all agree
that the situation is not a dilemma but
just a regular problem with resolution
within our reach if we just make a
    conscientious effort to improve every
step of the way. Does that mean if
the artist is allowed to make a few pesos
to buy his right art supplies and then
put in more hours things can happen? If it
doesn't at least it's half of the way.

The quandary issue with artists' inability to
buy the professional art supplies according to some lie in the unfortunate loop that they're holding the shorter end of the rope and the buyer/gallery appears to have stiffed them. It becomes a catch 22 for the artist. It's only after a while of paying his dues that recognition is given presumably as he gets more mileage in painting that willingness on the part of the gallery and buyers to pay his price. The laissez faire system is definitely in operation here. Demand, supply and pricing depends on the quality of the artwork. If an artist has not done his artwork but instead decides to get his feet wet with the market by way of mediocre quality artworks is it not reasonable to assume that no one in his right mind is willing to pay an unreasonable sum of money.

So the point of origin to correct the market operation is from the supplier of art which is
the artist. He needs to deliver quality artworks.

Though there had been situations where market trends can be influenced by the owners of deep purses. But this is another part of the story.

    let's take another brief breather.
time for espresso and mango/langka crepe.
